FAQ

Q: What makes remiCrystal different?
A: When you load up remiCrystal, first thing you will notice is that its not just another Crystal Reports or SQL Server Reports (SSRS) scheduler. From the sleek modern interface, to the well thought-out user interface, you can tell that this is a product that has been built from the ground up to address the failings of its peers.
Q: Does remiCrystal require and utilize a back-end database to store its information and data?
A: No. Unlike most reports schedulers on the market, remiCrystal does not require you to have any sort of database system installed on your computer. These databases add to the complexity of managing the software as they have pre-requisites of their own and also require periodic maintenance all while eating up precious CPU cycles. Another downside to these databases is backup and migration. How do you move your Crystal Report schedules from one machine to another? How do you back up your schedules? Not without a degree in IT you don’t!
remiCrystal saves its data in XML configuration files and the schedule data is saved in self-contained Task files (*.rctx). Therefore, there is no database to manage. You can easily move Tasks and share them between your systems and users (great for testing). Backing up can be handled by your Windows file system backup routines.
Q: How does the remiCrystal scheduler work?
A: All remiCrystal schedules run under the Windows Task Scheduler service (under any named account) and therefore do not require a seperate NT service installation or configuration.
Q: Will Crystal Reports scheduled in remiCrystal continue to run even after logging off the server?
A: Yes. All remiCrystal schedules are handled by the Windows Task Scheduler service and will continue run even after the user logs off the PC.
Q: How can control access to remiCrystal Tasks amongst my users?
A: As remiCrystal tasks are self-contained files, system administrators can assign permissions to each individual Task file (*.rctx). Tasks can be stored on shared drives for multiple users to share and controlled via ActiveDirectory and domain policies.
Q: Will moving or renaming my remiCrystal Tasks (*.rctx) files cause the schedules to fail?
A: No. remiCrystal cleverly monitors the Tasks on your computer and will update its internal systems whenever you move or rename any task.
Q: What does the cost of the software cover? Is this a full product price or subscription?
A: The price of remiCrystal is a one off payment and not a subscription. When you purchase remiCrystal, you get all the features that are contained in your selected edition. In addition to that, you also get full technical support and product updates that contain feature enhancements for a full year.
Q: Let me get this straight, remiCrystal can process both Crystal Reports and SQL Server Reports (SSRS)?
A: Thats correct. A remiCrystal task will can indeed have a mix Crystal Reports and SQL Server (SSRS) reports
